Selkirk Wasps Open Studios... Sunday

Yesterdayi went to the Wasps Open Studios in Selkirk with my mum and found it really good to go see how all these artists work and what inspires them with their work. Heres some things i took into account when moving around their studios quite like a hawk.
They have important quotes up on studio walls to get inspiration straight away. I'm already trying to have this through out my sketchbook as i think it helps to see what all the different artists say about their practise in their field and the sayings have definately influence me to continue on experimenting in my sketchbooks so i can relate to this in Mary Morrisons studio and all of the others if i remember correctly.

Its messy! Mary Morrison

They gather objects that inspire their work. Mary Morrison

Put their other work around them to inspire them greatly in their work. Kerry Jones

Have music they can play, to inspire they're work as they go along.  The next 3 photographs belong to Alan Richmond's studio space, which i found a most useful insight for Extended Specialist Techniques where I'm focusing on Abstract Art.

They have loads of books, on every type of art and artist out there. Was interesting to see what sort of painters/artists he admired and i found loads of Gerhard Richter books which i kind of guessed he took inspiration from and with whom i'm completely obsessed by at the moment. Alan Richmond

Images all around their studio that influence their work and show which direction they want to go in. It was interesting how boats and weather surfaces inspired his work, which is what i could take that i use more natural things such as weathered things and nature to get a response from my inner voice. Alan Richmond.

Again they gather images of the type of imagery they want to convey in their work. Liz Douglas

They have all the paint you could ever need. Liz Douglas

Sometimes they need reminding the different mixtures to get  the different  textures. Liz Douglas

Every type of tool is useful in the making of art. Liz Douglas

Work materials are there to use. Moy Mackay

The Entrance which i found quite cool that its wasn't just a normal door.

Bought Moy Mackays book Art In Felt and Stitch. Think it could help me in Surface pattern, I've tried this sort of thing before in High school where i produced a scarf but this is a really intuitive way to produce something quite different in surface pattern right now. Would like to follow some of the tutorials in the book to see what i can produce surface pattern wise.
This is the scarf with the same sort of technique I've made before done this 2/3 years ago and was made with the inspiration of mushrooms and flowers of the forest floor. Its a relatively simple and effective technique to create fabric/pattern for a garment etc.
Thanks :)
