Today i'm doing some work on Location photography and whilst researching i came across the Saatchi Galleries website where the current exhibition is called "Out of Focus Photography" ( Take a look!)
There are some photographers here that I've found that i really admire:
- Mikhael Subotzky - http://www.saatchi-gallery.co.uk/artists/mikhael_subotzky.htm?section_name=photography
I find his photographs are really looking for controversy which i find a good thing, that he's trying to push what is right and wrong in photography by taking photos of things we might not necessarily want to see, or things that are painful to view.
Lipps photos collages (well that's what i would call them) show an great use of collage to create unusual still life/landscape images. I like that he mixes up images from inside and outside to generate this lovely legion of environment, and playing with the thought of beauty. Making the photographs stand up and be seen realistically as a 3d image. Has a real abstract look about it as it doesn't necessarily make sense when you first see the photo.
- John Stezaker - http://www.saatchi-gallery.co.uk/artists/john_stezaker.htm?section_name=photography
These images remind me of David Hockneys photo collages of people and how they create a surreal sort of world. I love that Stezaker has merged two portrait of people and merged them to create a 'marriage' and a third person as they are being seen as one person not two. I think this is quite clever of him as hes taking something quite boring in my eyes such as plain portraiture photography and adding an element and creating an unusual visual form. The ones where he merges people with landscapes is quite clever also i feel as it destroys the facial form and makes a new one out of finding a facial image in the world surrounding us and shows the existence which we have on earth has left a mark on the landscape and we have literally merged with the landscape around us.
I then found this photographer called Jeffrey Conley (http://jeffreyconley.com/home.html) in which he makes beautiful photographs of the landscape. I love the photos which include snow, they just seem so surreal that these places are here and are not imagined. I just thought i would add him on cause his photos are a lovely documentation of the beauty that comes with snow and the way it obscures the landscape in which is lands on.
What do you think? :)
Thanks Annie x
